Nigeria Flamingoes Converge on Abuja for U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifying

Nigeria’s Flamingoes are expected to begin training today in Abuja after camping opened yesterday ahead of 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso.

Chief coach Bankole Olowookere invited 25 players for the camping exercise.

Some of the invitees include Nwachukwu Prisca, Adebayo Jumai, Adegoke Khadija, Ibrahim Ayoade, Olowookere Oluwatoyin, Azeez Rokibat, Okezie Onyedikachi.

Also invited are Afolabi Taiwo, Aderemi Mary, Moshood Shakira, Isiaka Ololade, Abdulwahab Farida, Joseph Queen among others.

The Nigerian girls will travel to Burkina Faso for the first leg on May 11, while the reverse fixture will hold at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

The African qualifier organised by CAF has four rounds played between 8 December 2023 and 16 June 2024 with last Round coming up between May and June 2024 where Ethiopia face Kenya and Morocco slug it out with Algeria while Nigeria goes toe to toe with Burkina Faso.

The three winners in the two legged games will represent Africa at the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.

The already qualified nations for the world cup are: Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic (host country), Ecuador, Mexico, New Zealand and USA

The 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will run from October 16 to November 3, 2024.

The Flamingos finished third at the last edition of the competition.
