The inaugural Japa Masters Volleyball competition is expected to spark off hostilities as clubs jostle for four million Naira prize money at stake from 6 to 10 August 2024 in Lagos.
According to the organisers, Japa Master, a rapidly expanding travel agency in Nigeria with a passion for sports and recreation, the event aims to unite country’s top volleyball talents and elevate the sport on a global scale.
In line with commitment to giving back to society and fulfilling corporate social responsibility, the tournament serves as a platform to nurture talent and promote the development of volleyball in Nigeria.
Genevieve Obuladike, Manager of Japa Masters Spikers, expressed the tournament’s mission to enhance competitiveness, refine skills, and elevate the standard of play within Lagos and Nigeria.
Emphasizing the scarcity of opportunities through regular competition in Nigeria, Obuladike highlighted the tournament’s role in spotlighting talented players and providing a gateway to international recognition.
In collaboration with Nigerian volleyball authorities, the tournament plans to attract top agents to scout promising talent, offering players a chance to showcase their abilities and potentially secure international opportunities.
Registration for the tournament is now open and closes on June 30th.

Nigeria Customs rounded off their participation in the African Women Volleyball Club Championship in Egypt with a 3-0 victory over Association Sportif of Algeria today.
The Nigerian ladies dominated proceedings on all fronts to run away with the emphatic win (23-25/13-25/17-25.)
With the victory, Customs finished the tournament 11th overall while the Algerian side settled for 12th place.
Customs won one game and lost two in the group stage, before slumping to Kenya Commercial Bank in the round of 16 which dropped them into the classification category.
One loss yesterday and today’s classification win over the Algerian side, ensured the Nigerian team ended 11th in the tournament’s overall standings.
The championship ends on 5 May 2024 in Cairo, Egypt. -
Nigeria Customs’ campaign in the 37th African women’s club volleyball championship in Cairo has come to an end.
In one of the round of sixteen encounters today, Customs slumped 3-0 (25-10 /25-18/ 25-13 ) to Kenya Prisons to exit the tournament.
To progress to round 16, the Nigerian ladies finished 3rd in Group C after winning 1 and losing 2 games.
As the Nigerian team head back home, Prisons will continue in the competition in the quarterfinal, making it the second side from the Eastern African nation to hit the next stage.Kenya Commercial Bank had mauled ASEC of Cote d’Ivoire 3-0 in an earlier round 16 matchup today.
The continental women’s club volleyball championship will conclude on 5 May 2024 in Cairo, Egypt. -

Nigeria representatives Customs Volleyball Club will play Kenya Prisons in one of tomorrow’s round 16 ties.
The Nigerian team finished 3rd in group C after winning one game and losing two, while their Kenyan counterparts picked up one victory and one loss to finish 2nd in pool A.
Customs will have to be at their best to upstage Prisons or risk going home empty handed.
The premier continental women’s club volleyball championship will end on 5 May 2025 in Cairo, Egypt. -

Customs slumped to a 0 to 3 sets loss to Kenya Pipeline Volleyball Club in a game played today in Cairo Egypt.
The Nigerian ladies will hope to bounce back from the opening group C loss tomorrow when they face Saint Dennis Olympique of La Reunion.
Custom’s last group game is against Cameroonian side Mayo Kane Evolution this Sunday.
The championship field has been divided into 4 groups with top two teams qualifying for the next stage. -
Nigeria’s senior national volleyball teams for men and women are through to the this year’s African Games in Ghana.
The Games’ zonal qualifying, expected to start tomorrow in Lagos had to be cancelled after other West African nations failed to turn up due to financial constraints.
Consequently the men’s and women’s teams of Nigeria who turned up qualified automatically for the volleyball event of the quadrennial championship in Ghana.
To ensure disappointed fans did not go home empty handed, the Nigerian men’s squad played Lagos Selected in a friendly, beating them 3-0 (30-28, 25-21, 25-22) at the National Stadium in Surulere.The 13th African Games are expected to be held in Ghana between 8 and 23 March 2024.

The final of the 2023 Girls U17 African Nations Volleyball Championship, held at the B’ Package of the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja yesterday December 7 attracted the presence of Sports Minister Senator John Enoh.
The fervor and excellence of the young athletes were on display as Senator Enoh, proudly stood among enthusiasts, cheering on the spirited clash between both nations.
The minister, a fervent believer of age-group sports development, emphasized the importance of nurturing talent and promoting sportsmanship among the youth.
He expressed his admiration for the dedication and prowess displayed by both teams, underscoring the significance of such competitions in fostering camaraderie and excellence in sports.
“I want to express profound gratitude to the African Volleyball Confederation for recognizing Nigeria’s commitment to fostering the growth of volleyball and providing a platform for young talents to showcase their skills on an international stage,” Senator Enoh said.
The Minister acknowledged and appreciated the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, led by Engr. Musa Nimrod for their unwavering support and partnership in driving the nation’s sports agenda forward.
According to the minister the Federation’s leadership’s efforts have significantly contributed to the growth and success of volleyball in Nigeria.
He gave kudos to the Federation for successfully hosting the rest of Africa during the championship.
