Athletes representing various companies in the 19th Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games have heightened preparations ahead of the competition kicking off from 21 to 27 April 2024 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
As a result, various teams currently in camps at different locations have started putting finishing touches and perfecting their plans for what promises to be a well attended showpiece.
Teams re-presenting NNPC, SHELL, TOTAL ENERGIES, NCDMB, NMDPRA, NUPRC, ARADEL, OANDO, SEPLAT, NLNG, CHEVRON, PTI and EXXONMOBIL will vie for honours in thirteen sports including Athletics, Golf, Chess, Football, Table Tennis and Tennis.
Other sports to feature in the week-long event include Squash, Badminton, Swimming, Basketball, Volleyball, 8-Ball Pool and Scrabble.
Highpoints of the final day’s activities will be finals of the men and women’s 100 and 200 metres dash, the 4×100 metres relay and the final football match between NCDMB and NLNG.
The preliminaries of the football event took place at the Shell Residential Area, Port Harcourt in March.
NCDMB defeated NNPC 1-0 in a highly contested semi final duel while NLNG defeated NMDPRA 1-0 in the another last four matchup.
Meanwhile one of the stars to feature in the Table Tennis event for Team NCDMB, Joe Adebayor has since relocated to Lagos, training for long hours daily at the Knock-up hall, National stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
“We don’t want to take any chances. We hope to compete well and win medals for our company. That’s why I am training. hard,” Adebayor said.

Thirteen companies will participate in the upcoming Nigeria Oil And Gas Games scheduled to take place from 21 to 27 April 2024 in Abuja.
Receiving a delegation of the Games’ organisers in his office in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh emphasized that increased involvement in sports has become expedient, as it will not only enhance individual health and fitness but also contribute to reduced national expenditure on healthcare.
The Minister made the remarks as he pledged his support for the upcoming 19th edition of the Games, reiterating the broader societal benefits of promoting sports participation, and thanked the oil and gas industry for contributing to health and wellness through sports.
Senator Enoh commended the consistency demonstrated by the organizers in hosting the 19th edition of the Games.
Responding, the visiting delegation led by the chairlady of 19th edition of Oil and gas industry games, Dr Ifeyiwa Mojo-Eyes, explained their noble vision to empower wellness and ignite productivity within the industry.
By fostering a culture of physical activity and healthy competition, the organisers aimed to promote overall well-being among participants while also enhancing productivity in the workplace.
In line with these objectives, the Ministry of Sports Development is exploring initiatives to further promote sports and fitness awareness on a national scale.
One such initiative is the proposed annual National Sports and Fitness Day, which aims to elevate awareness of mental, physical, and emotional well-being across the country.
As the countdown to the 19th Edition of the Nigerian Oil And Gas Industry Games begins, the Ministry of Sports Development reaffirms its commitment to championing sports development and promoting a healthier, more active nation.
